The Milan ’54 Hoosiers Museum mourns the passing of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa. Mr. Hackman was synonymous with the legendary 1954 Milan State Championship given his role as Coach Norman Dale in the movie Hoosiers. For the past decade, we’ve been proud to recognize Mr. Hackman through our Hoosiers movie collection. Norman Dale’s principles of teamwork, discipline, and selflessness well reflected those of Marvin Wood, the coach of the 1954 team. Mr. Hackman did an impeccable job in honoring Coach Wood in what is often regarded as the greatest sports movie of all time. The Milan ’54 Hoosiers Museum board extends its deepest sympathies to the families of Mr. Hackman and Mrs. Arakawa.
